Health is a condition where disease and infirmity are totally absent. There are various definitions applied to health. It may be defined as a state in which the individual’s body system functions normally and where the person’s mind and spirit are at its optimum. In the modern era this has become more complicated. It has come to mean not only physical well being but also a state in which the patient’s mind, spirit and body are at their best.
But a definition of good health must take into consideration the different definitions of health that have been applied throughout the history of man. In simple terms, we can say that health is the absence of disease. This is probably the easiest definition, since it implies the absence of all infectious agents, let alone the absence of any form of negative life-enhancing agents.
However, some specialists disagree with this definition. The definition of healthy, in their opinion, is quite different from the third definition. According to them, health is the absence of all diseases. Disease is something that man introduced into the environment that was not there before. This change, they argue, has resulted in the emergence of more complex organisms that have different ways of life and are capable of causing disease in man.
This difference in the definitions of health highlights another important point about the definition of health. When you speak of a definition of health, the speaker is not speaking literally of a definition, but rather a statement of fact. There are many definitions of health, and each of them refers to a state in which the body is not infected or affected by diseases. If we want to talk about a definition of health, then we will have to say that this is the definition adopted by most scientists and physicians in order to describe the essence of health as far as the human body is concerned.
A disease is an abnormal growth or process of the body or a group of cells in the body that results in injury or damage to the normal functioning of a part of the body. These damages or injuries can result from external factors such as viruses, toxins, biologic agents, radiation, and others. The damage done to the body may be permanent or may only be felt over a period of time. It is important for us to understand that the definition of health is determined by how we see health in terms of diseases, and not by how we see health as a whole. The importance of public health is reflected in the fact that it is the responsibility of public health organizations to ensure that all aspects of health are well balanced and managed within the community. These organizations also work towards preventing new diseases from appearing.
The above discussion shows that there is a wide difference between the concepts of health as it relates to the individual and the definition of health as it applies to society as a whole. The focus of this paper is on the concept of well-being. Although medical care is necessary for a healthy life, the focus of this paper is on understanding the relationship between the definition of health, general well-being and the practice of medicine.
