The Concepts of Wellness

Health is a condition where disease and infirmity are totally absent. It is usually associated with mind and body together. A number of definitions have been used for various purposes over the years.

One definition that is commonly used is the principle of well-being. According to this, a person is healthy when he is able to live his life in a competent way and to achieve what he wants in life. It is believed that healthy people have high energy, social competence, personal morale, and positive attitudes. Another school of thought maintains that individuals who have good health conditions have higher self-esteem, better coping skills and are more resilient.

Another definition is the concept of mental health. Mental health is very much related to the physical health, since they are somehow intertwined. People with poor coping skills, depression, and other mental health conditions are often unable to adapt to changes in their environment and can be adversely affected by health conditions such as stress, smoking, high levels of alcohol intake, and other physical disorders. On the other hand, healthy individuals are able to manage their lifestyle and live in a better way with high self-esteem and positive attitudes towards life.

The third major aspect of well-being is the concept of physical health. It refers to the absence of any serious physical illness or injury. Some experts believe that physical health issues are the result of a negative lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle, an improper diet, and poor hygiene are some of the factors that can lead to the onset of health issues. They believe that addressing these health issues early can save a patient a lot of discomfort and costs. In addition, there is also the belief that treating health issues before they get worse will make it easier to cure.

The fourth area involves mental health and wellness. People with this level of control believe that they have full control over their body, mind, and emotions and are less susceptible to the influence of illness, stress, and other outside forces. These people tend to live longer and are less likely to experience serious health problems.

The five facets of wellness are important to public health science. They all involve the psychological and physical aspects of the person. The focus on mental wellness is to prevent illness and promote recovery. The physical aspect involves preventing the spread of disease, maintaining bodily functions, maintaining health, and preventing injuries. The psychological aspect includes preventing mental illnesses that might develop into physical illnesses, encouraging participation in sport and other activities, and encouraging an active social life.
